[ARC5] RX and Q meters

A good place to look is at the Boonton Notebook
http://hparchive.com/boonton

This same page has links to Boonton handbooks and other literature.
The Notebook has references to other sources of theory and
practice.
There are better instruments for transmission line
measurements, for instance some General Radio bridges. The
Q-Meter and RX Meter have the advantage of being self contained
while most RF instruments require an external generator and
detector. The RX-Meter can make some transmission line and
antenna measurements but is limited in its reactance range. It is
the ideal instrument for measuring the RF characteristics of
resistors and is very useful for measuring the characteristics of
RF tuned networks in amplifiers. The Q-Meter is of course very
good for measuring the characteristics of coils and also can
measure small capacitances. It can be adapted for use in some
transmission line measurements but an impedance bridge is
generally easier to use.
I certainly second Roy's remarks on your surgery. I am very
interested since I am contemplating similar surgery.
