Interestingly enough, the manuals also have some slight official 
variations for the command set shock mounts as time went on.  T.O. 
08-10-50, revised on February 15, 1943 calls it simply a "Mounting", or 
"shock-proof Mounting".  The AN/ARC-5 manual calls it a "Mounting 
Base".  I usually call it a shock mount because it includes the 
operative word describing the rubber shocks and thus avoids confusion, 
but KK5F's caution is well reasoned - nowhere that I can find is the 
mount ever called a rack except in a longer explanation describing its 
purpose.
