[ARC5] A.R.C. engineer visit to COMAIRPAC, Pearl Harbor Dec 1942

I have in my archives somewhere a photo of the
cockpit of an F4F on 

the ramp at Midway after the battle.  The aircraft
was outfitted with 

GF/RU and ZB.   The aircraft has IIRC two Victory
marks.

 

Found the photo attached on Google and it has the

same configuration as the Midway ramp aircraft.

Curious:  The RU Control Box has an extra control
added, both

in this photo and in the period photo from the
Midway ramp.

Any speculation about its purpose?  Anyone seen a
box

so modified in surplus?
