After initially getting my ARC-114 and ARC-116 up and running I decided that the power supply I had built was not hacking it. While Okay on receive, on transmit the output voltage loaded down to about 24VDC. The lower voltage did not seem to affect the ARC-114 much but it did keep the ARC-116 from providing proper audio.
So I built a whole new power supply and interface, using an old Lear aircraft power supply chassis and various other junk parts, including a hefty transformer and pass transistors salvaged from a discarded stereo. I added a fan to help cool the power supply and copied the Velleman preamp I had built for the original power supply. About the only things not junk are the three terminal regulator IC's.
Both sets seem to work great now, although I have found my Audio Technica ATR-20 mike provides better sounding audio than does the old Icom IC-215 mike I had decided to use. So I built an adapter so I could use either one.
Next challenge is a couple of suitable antennas.
