Hmmmm,
My experiences coincide with not a few, here. Although not radio, per
se, they were private, corporate, and government historic aviation
activities. Top down, the Government museums have the best
accountability. If one donates, the item(s) is/are documented and
cataloged. They may very well not be used for a while but they are
generally safe in their supply system. E.g.: the USAF Air Mobility
Command museum at Dover AFB. The "corporate" museums are a different
story, I found. Some are excellent and ask only for what they really
need. Much of what I have seen fit to donate was to fill a hole in some
display, either identified by me as a casual observer or via their
general requests. However, a lot of material is simply accepted (read:
vacuumed up en mass), stored, and maybe used or canned at some point.
Or, some nondescript "volunteer" simply took an item for their own use.
Private museums, I simply chose not to recognize as I have no affinity
nor knowledge of them. If I want to give stuff away, I'll give it to
those I know (of). That said, it is gratifying to see some artifact one
has donated on display, truly.
