[ARC5] BC-375 Tuning Units

I was wondering why N4FS would say what he said, so I visited the website.Now I understand...Lots of way to donate, but nothing to show for it.  No content or substance.
I wonder if the organizations that he claims to be funding know about him?

I need to know where your friend found the information she is referring to. I am not aware of any specific IRS publication, regulation or ruling that specifically restricts online price information such as ebay from being used for tax deduction purposes.

Tax deductions for donations such as radios, tubes, etc., must be based on what is called “Fair Market Value”. IRS Publication 561 “Determining the Value of Donated Property” covers this area. IRS Publication 526 “Charitable Contributions” is also useful.

Again, Fair Market Value is the key function. And, there are various services online that help people determine Fair Market Value, and they use ebay extensively.

And BTW, I am the Curator for the Museum. More important in my 40+ year professional experience as a leader in the field of due diligence, have also been performing professional appraisals, fair market valuations, fairness opinions, and numerous other professional services regarding values and valuations of just about every type imaginable.

Please ask your friend to contact me right away, as I definitely need to know about her source.

Nels and folks,

One detail worth knowing: the IRS will NOT accept eBay transactions for valuation purposes, since eBay does not keep auction records for more than about 90 days and as a result there is no third party record available after that time.

My girlfriend is a consulting curator and professional appraiser, and this is what she tells me.

In addition to trying to sell these, your friend can also get tax deductions for donations to the Museum. One of these would make an excellent addition to the Museum! As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Museum issues proper tax deduction letters for all donations. Tell your friend that he can deduct the highest prices for donations that can be found anywhere during the tax year, such as high prices found on evil bay or elsewhere. And also tell your friend that he can include all the costs of packaging and shipping, and will probably be surprised to learn that he can also include the costs of storage, along with any testing, repairs, restoration, etc.

Attached is our tax deduction letter template, and also attached is the Inaugural issue of Filling the Vacuum. For those of you in the Forum, the Forum system does not seem to allow attachments, or perhaps it is a size limitation. In any event, please email me and I will be happy to send you the files.

I know my question isn't exactly about ARC5's but it's about WWII era military aircraft radios and I think this group is pretty knowledgeable in that area.

I'm helping an elderly friend clean out his basement so he can downsize his house. We just found a set of BC-375 transmitter tuning units. I know that normally these are not particularly rare or valuable, but these five units are still sealed in their original General Electric boxes. I know that in some cases with antiques being in this condition makes a big difference on the value.

I cannot find any comparable sales, so I need some opinions for people who are knowledgeable with this sort of radio what these are worth. I don't want to shortchange my friend by selling them too cheaply but I know it's a limited market too. So any help would be appreciated.

I do have a local buyer interested, but if you are interested in buying them do let me know in case that falls through. Thanks!
