     One possibility is to use a small loop on a hand held 
broadcast receiver. I think you can still buy them. The loop is 
directional and will help find the noise source. Its helpful if 
you have a receiver with adjustable RF gain but few battery sets 
do. The noise may come from many sources but its character may 
help to determine what it is. Could be anything from fluorescent 
lights to plasma displays. If on the power line you may be able 
to see it on an oscilloscope. Power line noise can also be 
radiated over large distances by power lines. Can also come from 
street lights, does it come on in the evening?
    If you have a battery operated radio that hears it try 
shutting off the power at the main switch (may not be possible if 
there is a whole church on it).
     A cure depends on the source. Ferrite beads can help filter 
it if its coming from the power main but not if its radiated 
noise. A balanced antenna can help.
     There is an enormous amount of electrical noise now, 
sometimes very hard to track down. Power companies used to offer 
help but I don't know if they do any more.
    I have not done a web search for sites with samples of 
different kinds of noise but I am sure there are some, maybe You 
Tube.
