It's no that the younger generation lacks the skill, they don't have any interest to learn about this old equipment. We have the interest because they are our "Rosebud"s, stealing a line from Citizen Kane. We fondly remember these radio sets from your youth when quality electronics was expensive.
Realistically, what are we trying to preserve? One of the outstanding accomplishments of WW2 was microwave radar but how many of us are trying the collect and archive radar sets?
The younger generation does have good designers and experimenters but they are designing with software, not hardware. That is the future, at least at my place on employment and other tech companies.
We are getting older and probably spend more time on the Internet and our computers talking about the equipment that tinkering with it.
Enjoy it while you can.
