[ARC5] Batteries That Do Not Corrode

Here's what I do about contact corrosion.
First, wash it out with distilled water. I find that the corrosion
products are very water soluble. If you can't flood the area, use Q-tips
and paper towels. Let it dry completely; blow it out with compressed air
if your shop has that ability.
You should now have contacts free of corrosion, but probably also no
longer plated, so they will corrode again, quickly. If they are copper
or some other metal that solder will stick to , tin them. If not (as
with chrome plating, or what it now partial chrome plating), coat them
with silicone GREASE, not RTV. This will keep air and moisture away from
the now un-plated surfaces.
If you can't find tsilicone grese email me and I will give you the GE
part number. I had to buy a lifetime supply, and you may, too, but it
didn't cost a fortune.
The virtue of this grease is that it just won't speak to water at all.
When I lived in road-salty Boston, I used it to coat bolt ends under my
car, and five years later, things unscrewed as if they had only been
re-assembled yesterday.
Alternatively to the silicone, squirt the contacts with De-Oxit, which
leaves an oily residue, designed, I expect to lubricate sliding contacts.
Works for me.
