I've posted this link before but it's worth doing it again in case 
anyone missed it, because this is an excellent description and 
demonstration of a modern-day replica Four Course Radio Range:

Note that while this replica operates on 28MHz rather than LF, the 
principle is the same and the flight demo give those of us who never 
heard the original a sense of what it sounded like.   As noted by a 
couple of commenters there were probably differences, but I doubt anyone 
is going to built a LF replica anytime soon!
