In USN service, a carrier-based F4F-4 very likely had NO range receiver. Its electrical system is 14 vdc, so a 28 vdc ARA/ATA system could not be installed. Instead, the 1939 14 vdc GF-8/RU-13 is the command set that was used. The RU-13 had a CBY-47107 dual-band tuning coil set installed, allowing the pilot to remote-switch between 540 to 830 kHz navigation coverage and 3000 to 4525 kHz communications coverage. The 540 to 830 kHz coverage was vital, because that's the output band of the ZB-* 246 MHz homing adapter employed to get the pilot back to the carrier. (A CBY-47108 tuning coil set does the same, except that it has communications coverage from 5200 to 7700 kHz.)

Coverage of 200 to 400 kHz was not useful for carrier-based aircraft in the Pacific.
