I think he's "going for the GLOW AMBIENCE" aspect that the metal tubes don't have...aw, the ARC-5 tubes are all boxed up so we can't see them anyway, we just have to take solace that they are there.

The problem with metal tubes is that you can't see the pilot light. And if instead you grab it to see if is warm then you risk electrocution. I can recall a shocking experience with a Super Pro, which I subsequently gave away.
