Hi Clare and group –
Obviously you are somewhat older than me since I did not come to this country till 1956 when I was 11. Congratulations on your great memory which surpasses mine. Being refugees, we had no money at all back then. I did not get to college till ’65 when I was almost 20 since I lost a year starting school in Hungary since I was born in October and I lost a year here since I could not speak English. Maybe having nothing back then is why my entire home is full of electronics now, HI. 73 – Mike

Hi Mike,
I still have the SRCM Vol 1 that my mother bought me when I was a novice back in 1956. Its copyright date is 1948. It even has a nice solder flux splotch on the title page and my freshman year college dorm address written inside the front cover. I think I was still using my old wood burning pen as a soldering iron back in 1956. Yikes!

Hi Dave and group –
Back in the late 50’s and early 60’s all I could afford was surplus stuff. I made changes or used parts out of every one. After that I built all my rigs. Built several of the HBR series receivers and designed my own home brew all band transmitter. Now of course Unless real rare, I prefer to get perfect surplus stuff. BTW, I never used conversion manuals as I do not think they were even available when I was playing with that stuff 60 years ago. 73 – Mike
