[ARC5] ARC-5 Double Conversion

I’ve got three articles, all from foreign countries, describing the double conversion of the ARC-5 receivers. One from the UK, one from Australia, and one from New Zealand. 

Basically the BC-454 or BC-455 were modified to replace the 2nd & 3rd IFs with the 1st & 2nd IFs from a BC-453. The 1st IF Amp (12SK7) was replaced with either a 12K8 or 12SA7 and wired as a 2nd mixer. Either a spare BFO can or a BC band oscillator coil was used as a 2nd Local Oscillator with frequency shifted 85 kHz. All three articles stated that the receivers worked great with very good selectivity.

Has anyone done this modification here in the U.S. and were any articles written on it in US publications?

I’d like to here from anyone who has done this or knows of US articles describing this change. The changes are all restorable.
