I bought a Chinese voltage boost converter and have experimented with using
it to run a ARC Type 12 R-15 VHF radio with 24V dynamotor. I used a 12V
gel cell as a voltage source and found the converter had enough oomph to
start the dynamotor and run the receiver FB.
Looks like it may be useful for other 24V equipment in the car. I'd been
using car power boosted with an additional gel cell.
This specific model is rated 400W and takes 6 to 40V input for 8-80V output
at up to 9.99 amps.. So far it works as advertised. There are Youtube
videos demonstrating these and they are also available in higher wattage
ratings.
