[ARC5] interesting ARC-5 setup

A friend of mine called to say that  he had acquired several ARC-5 receivers among other stuff from an estate.He likes the Collins and Hammerlunds , so he gave me the ARCs.
The ham who set these built several converters, even one for 6 meters!The most interesting pair was an R-26 (3-6 MHZ) with a RCA jack in the rear of the case which was an IF output,That was fed into a mixer with a HUGE 1 point something MHZ crystal  in it which fed to the antenna post of anR-23 beacon receiver.I never saw two radios in tandem like this. Usually it's just a converter on the R-23.I'm just getting everything fixed up, so I haven't tried it yet, Seems to me that this concept might have too much gain, so the R-26 would have to be turned way down.
I'll let you know how it works when I get everything cleaned up and working...
