Dave,
A most excellent write up, a lot of which also applies
to other military gear that each of us might be using and
working on.
I'm particularly appreciative of these helpful reminders:
o Use a capture box for screws removed:. A worthwhile
preventive measure as Murphy's law is alive and well in my
shack.
o Be safe at all times. The 1000 volt B+ coursing through
the ATD can and will kill you if touched. My recent near death
experience was touching a 500 volt regulated power supply
that I thought was turned off, but wasn't! There was no visual
indication of power-on and I'd removed the tubes and there was
no pilot light! These days I double, double check the power-off
status of any gear that I'm working on.
o Use larger than 12 gauge cabling for the dynamotor input.
o Give all ground screws a slight turn to ensure that they are
doing what they are suppose to do.
o Reattaching a meter's glass face with rubber cement works
well for me. Rubber glue is a little messy. But after it dries, I find
the unwanted residue rubs off easily.
o And one other thing. I really appreciate you sharing the photo's
you take of the radios that you're working on. In fact it was your
use of links via Google photo's that motivated me to learn how to
share photo's that way too. I also like the way you document the
sections of the radio you're working on. In my case, I've found
my iPhone's camera does a good job.
Thanks again, Dave, for sharing your excellent notes with us,
