[ARC5] BC-454B tuneup

There isn't much to go wrong in the BFO LC other than perhaps some corrosion of the tuning caps rotor contacts. The internal 1000pf is just a coupling cap and the other 200pf (?) external  is also used as coupling. The BFO is not all that stable, but I was always able to get one to zero beat if it worked.
Dumb question, but did you turn off the generator audio modulation while doing the zero beat adjustment?

 Hello all,

In tuning up this receiver, I am injecting a signal at the mixer grid cap, and adjusting the BFO oscillator, attempting to zero beat the BFO. I can never achieve a full zero beat. I still hear the tone  only less so after adjustment. What would cause this? Where should I be looking?

Tnx,

Robert
