Jack,No, you're correct. We had a "charge number", now called a DODAC, that allows a unit to buy, if you would. When we identified what we needed, and inasmuch as the item was already authorized for other acft, we simply gave them the req order and left with the unit. We did have to b/o the connectors, the rack, and control box. It took about 2 weeks but all came together. The old days of a bottle of booze for whatever is arguably, no more.....hi!!! The whole reason to go inside the warehouse was to see what MAC and SAC used for comms and if we could use it. As it was, all was biness-as-usual.Jeep K3HVG

Subject: [ARC5] Was arc-3, now military supply
Another question for the group, triggered by jeep's posting.
I wasn't in the military, so didn't have to deal with the
military supply system, but one of the duties my Dad had
dumped on him at the radar site was Supply Officer.
And I know it caused no end of headaches, grey hairs and
grumbling on his part.
Back to jeep's post. A unit decides it needs a new item, in this
case a radio for a newly acquired airplane.
What paperwork would be involved in that? I'm sure it is not as
simple as simply walking over to base supply and saying, "Hey,
gimme an ARC-27".
