Back in the mid 90's, Fair Radio had a bunch of NOSB CTE-51004-C
microphones (equivalent to the RS-38-A except had a coiled cord and a PJ-068 plug). I
bought about a dozen of them as they were cheap and I had several depot
overhauled TCS transmitters to sell. The carbon element worked OK but the
machining quality was terrible. They turned out to have been made in Japan in
the early 50's before they got their act together. The PTT switches looked
like they had been made with tin snips and were unreliable and the PJ-068
looked like it had been made with a hand file. I sold one to a friend who
discovered the problems. These are the only 51004's that I've seen with coiled
cords so beware.
I still have a few of the transmitters.
