[ARC5] R-23 Antenna Connector

Working on an R-23 and have it working fine with one exception - the
antenna connector is intermittent. When I insert the antenna and release
pressure on the spring, I get scratchy noise as in a bad or partial
connection. If I hold a slight tension on the spring, I can make the noise
go away but it returns when pressure is released.
Attaching the antenna to the top loop connector and switching to 'Loop'
makes the noise go away.
The solder on end inside the radio looks solid. There's red paint on the
solder joint and on the attachment nut. At one point rubbing the
connection inside with a Q-tip reduced/eliminated the noise (voodoo?)
Should I disassemble the connector entirely for cleaning? Any tricks to
that job?
