[ARC5] Removing Knob White Stuff?

     Have you tried old fashioned Windex, the kind with Ammonia? 
Supposed to work well for this. I've tried Armor All after cleaning. It 
shines the surface but I am not sure if it prevents future degradation. 
Very old Bakelite often becomes pitted and brittle.
