Yeah, as part of their anti-tobacco crusade, all of the drug stores in the
Houston area quit stocking pipe cleaners, even though they have a million
other uses. However, you can buy them in hobby supply stores like Hobby
Lobby, although they aren't called pipe cleaners and none of the staff will admit
to knowing where they are if you ask for them by that name. They come in
approximately 12" and 18" lengths and several different diameters.
Dimensions are usually metric for some unknown reason.
Another group of items that also work are those small diameter straight
brush tips used to clean between teeth. Although they are nylon so not
absorbant.
