I think that your statement is more that a bit difficult to prove. And even if half correct, given the huge number of units produced (millions perhaps) it would be of even greater interest to know the number of these units that were never recovered in any form with huge numbers being plowed under or recycled as beer cans and TV dinner tables. I'd speculate that most of the command sets both transmitters and receivers that made it into the hands of hams found some use in their endeavors no matter how crude the adaptations were... they were indeed mostly happy stories be they squished into VFO service or hanger queens that turn up as pristine gadgets for contemporary collectors to fawn over. My main complaint with the current crop of command set fans is the contempt they have for those of us who actually enjoyed puttering around with these critters

As I said already, Bob: For every one "happy" story like
yours, a hundred or more transmitters were hacked and
junked without ever making a single QSO.
There just ain't no justifying it.
