Yes.

I cut the fronts out of several transmitters, installed an aluminum plate over the opening after 
removing the antenna coil, then installed a BC band variable with knob and a plate 
milliammeter, and turned the output stage into a Pi-Net. :-(

That was the only time I ever saw my favorite Elmer, Woody Davey W7CJB "less than 
pleased" with me. From what I could see at the time, it really pissed him off, in fact.

This was in about 1965 or so.

I was getting about 50 watts input from them. I remember using one connected to a 
broadcast station's insulated tower on 160 meters one night. Worked well. We made a lot of 
contacts.
