This is the power supply that has run my two transmitter, three receiver Command Set for over a decade:

Astec MVP series. Two 28 volt at 15 amp modules. There is a ribbon cable between the two that connects them together so they can work in parallel. The two old computer impact printer capacitors to take dynamotor starting surge total 200,000 microfarads. No RFI issues. There are no external batteries on this set. Transmit and receive dynamotors all start cleanly and can all be run at the same time.
You see these power supplies every once in awhile on eBay. As with everything industrial there, you can find people who will sell them to you for 20 bucks and people who want $2,000. You just have to shop around.  Astec MVP-series power supply documentation is available via Google search.
