This is off topic, but since it could be a fire hazard I wanted to share
with the group.
A short while ago I blew out a Cyberpower Battery Backup unit while tuning
up my radios. This is the second time it happened; same make and model -
Cyberpower 1350VA CST1300AL.
The first time was about a year ago. I was tuning up on 10M with my
amplifier when my son came down and said he heard my code through the
Cyberpower unit, then heard a loud pop and smelled smoke. I discounted this
as it just didn’t make sense to me.
Tonight it happened again, tuning up with 100W on 6M. My wife heard the
code through the Cyberpower unit, heard a loud pop, and smelled smoke.
Also, tonight before this happened I was running 100W on 10M CW with no ill
effects.
I left a message on the Cyberpower Tech support line as this could very
well be a fire hazard.
Stay safe....
