How about engraving the plastic mechanically or with laser engraver & working white into the grooves as with old panels & knobs? The local library system here has a "maker space" that includes laser engraving and laser vinyl mask cutter. There's one or two plastic types they won't run the laser with because of toxic fumes. Maybe what we need is a bit of assistance from "maker movement" folks who play with such tools?
