Hi Dave –

I do not know if your post was made in jest or not. However. Prior to my retirement early last year, I spent 30 years in MILSATCOM. I was involved with the fielded ground terminals that were used in all conflict areas. In all that time I do not recall any of our MIL or Commercial satellites having to move out of orbit for any reason to cause outages. Of course I am familiar with the HF problems. 73 – Mike

Wasn't there a call for R-390A's during the Gulf War because comms were getting fried by high levels of atmospheric static discharge? Or is that urban or sub-urban legend?

The Earth was getting sand-blasted by debris from a comet tail.

The sats were maneuvered to minimize damage from the passage and

were thus off-lined for a time. MilCom had to “re-discover” HF again.
