Howdy, Tom.
No modification. The MD-7 has an extra, 8-pin
connector not present on the BC-456 which is
specifically for connection of the J-16 or J-22
box. which provides headphone and mike jacks
for the ARC-5.

In many later-war Navy aircraft like the F4U,
the controls that were originally in the C-29
were instead wired to a switch or switches
in a custom-made console panel, usually mounted
with other panels on the right-hand side of
the cockpit. I have some photos here somewhere
but can't put my hand on them at the moment.
Don't waste time with Googleing the F4U
cockpit; almost everything you'll find will be
some ah-hem "restoration" with lots of modern
junk and nonsense shoe-horned into that
panel and the original technology probably
thrown in the scrap heap. Bleech!
If I wanted to see a Cessna cockpit, I'd look
in a Cessna. Maybe people should just
paint a Cessna like an F4U and be done.
It's cheaper.

Anyways- the Radio Mechanics would typically
hard-wire the mode for AM, since CW use
was not intended. Then you just need a single-
pole, 4-throw rotary for transmiter selection if
you are talking an full 4-TX HF installation,
which I think one would be hard-pressed to
find in actual service. On-Off was the "RADIO"
switch on the Master Power Panel.

On mine, I dispensed with sidetone and TONE
modes, which allowed me to use a 4-pole
triple-throw rotary switch to make CW-OFF-AM.

If you look a the C-29 schematic, you'll see how
you can wire-up switches to provide the functions
you want.

Since my set is a "Single-Single," I don't need
a Transmitter Select switch.
The "NET" switch just opens the Muting circuit
so I can net the transmitter and receiver.
