[ARC5] Really Spooky Signal on 20 Meters.

Quite a few years the local USCG station called me and asked if I could DF a
signal that was tearing up one of their helicopter frequencies. I did and
learned a lot about CODAN in the process. Talked with the tech at Sandy
Hook and she said "oops" and it was corrected within the hour. She called
back and asked if all was ok. Had a nice conversation with her and learned
about CODAR. She invited me to come up to SH and meet with the crew for a
tour. I regret not taking advantage of her offer. Google CODAR and find out
how cool the system is.

There are a couple of CODAN sites near me at Sandy Hook and Sea Bright NJ.
One was causing interference on the 60 meter band.
They are administrated by Rutgers University and contacted the CODAN
administrator. The offending frequency was eventually moved. I don't know if
was moved because of my complaint. I believe they frequencies were realigned
after dedicated CODAN bands were issued as a result of a WARC conference,

Years back when I was in CAP there was a swept interference in the 4 MHz
band (which later I identified as CODAN) which I went out to DF. Traced it
into northern NJ from NY and while at one DF stop a local cop came over and
asked what I was doing. I explained and showed him how I was DFing, which he
found interesting and said his uncle was a ham. Well, about half an hour
after that the signal, which had been going for weeks steady, stopped. I
always wondered about that.
