Years back when I was in CAP there was a swept interference in the 4 MHz band (which later I identified as CODAN) which I went out to DF. Traced it into northern NJ from NY and while at one DF stop a local cop came over and asked what I was doing. I explained and showed him how I was DFing, which he found interesting and said his uncle was a ham. Well, about half an hour after that the signal, which had been going for weeks steady, stopped. I always wondered about that.
