    Well, a little searching produced this:

    Glass dielectric caps are still made. Corning evidently began to 
make them about 1953. They were of very high stability and excellent 
performance.  I found an article stating that Corning had developed 
methods of mass producing them at reduced cost (c.late 1950s)  I think 
they stayed rather expensive so are not too often found.
