I have an R-15 I converted to local control IAW the instructions in what I guess was 73 Magazine. I considered adding a dial and concluded that I could drill some appropriate holes in the tuning cap frame and then transfer the gears and dial from a WWII Command set without too much trouble.

Of course, I also planned to paint it black wrinkle finish and make a fake R-13 just to get people like y'all all excited.

I bought an R-11A from Fair Radio back in 1974 and also the single unit control box and dial for it. That arrangement did not work that well. The right angle drive had to support the box and that was a bit much for it. The gears tended to slip. Brian has that box now.
