I took Scott's meaning as suggesting a way to speed up the relay as
_compared_ with using a solid state diode. At least that's the way I
understood it, given Scott's extensive experience. Sometimes it takes
some parsing of the English language when we write. For example, I
simply answered Wayne's specific question, not having the time at lunch
today to write a tome on all the possible ways to suppress a voltage
spike. I had a feeling there would be others chiming in with a bunch
more, and sure enough - opportunity to share!
