If you recall where that test was published, I'd sure like to know.  I 
remember it well and as you say the results were quite compelling.   I 
was pretty sure it appeared in the Antique Radio Classified mag but 
after not finding it I asked the publisher who couldn't remember it 
either.    It would bring actual data to what is otherwise often is a 
battle of opinions ;-)
