I have used a number of these little meters,
all obtained from EBay, with full satisfaction.
The better models have a tiny trim pot that
allows tweaking the calibration.

Some (but not all) two wire versions can be
converted to separate power and signal inputs
by removing a jumper and adding the extra lead;
the negative remains common.

I have also used DC to DC converters, audio
amplifiers, and other sensor modules. As has
been mentioned many of these require some
modification to make things "right", but the low
price and convenience make them handier
than starting from scratch.
