I agree about the 6AQ5s being good, but, as you know the 5763 and the 6CL6
are 9 pin and larger plate dissipation along with intended RF application. I
used all three in the early 60's and 70's in my homebrew rigs with great
results. Now that I am retiring, I hope to get a chance to also try some of

I did indeed try 5763s and a couple of others, Mike.
They did not work nearly so well as the 6AQ5s.
I don't know why. The 6AQ5 is sort of a 6V6 in a
7-pin Mini case, so not surprising it works so well.
Better than the VT-25s and a heck of a lot less expensive.
