[ARC5] Basic Question

Not a pilot but I was talking to a gentleman who was a radio operator on C-54s at the end of the war and told me a story about using this key when his liaison transmitter went out.  He said he had to lay on the floor between the pilot and co-pilot in order to tap out Morse on the BC-451.

installation on the center cockpit overhead in the B-17, the pilot would
need to reach up, turn his palm to the rear of the aircraft,  and press
towards the rear to close the key.

I'd like to know if that was ever used.
