It is possible to use the more available PL-153 or PL-153-A connectors on
the MD-7 and transmitter control box at the expense of losing the ability to
select Transmitter #1. First, plug contact # 1 on the PL-153 or 153-A.
Second, drill a clearance hole in the front of the connector to clear pin #1 on
the modular and control box. Then in the mount, restrap it for Transmitter
#3 and #4 (or #2 and #3).

It is also possible to use the BC-451 Transmitter Control Box with an HF
only AN/ARC-5 setup. The modulator to control box cable must have a PL-153 or
-A on the box end. If you run the wire for the Mic through (Pin 8, not
present in the normal installation because the control box has no mic jack),
the mic jack will work. With an unmodified BC-451, the Test Keys on the mount
won't work properly. If you modify the box by lifting the selector switch
common from ground and running it to Pin 6 (formerly Meter +) and if you
have the proper connector on the other end, everything will work properly. If
you have a modified PL-153,-A on the other end, you won't have Transmitter
#1 but the Test Keys will work.
