I have a "picture book" , on the B-36 that shows
an AN/ARC-8 installation, with what I assume is a BC-453 mounted beside
the operating position. This was circa 1950. The installation looked
neat and uncluttered.
Another picture taken a few years later still shows the AN/ARC-8, but it
is buried in and among quite a bit of other electronics. Looked more
like the HF radio was more of an after-thought than anything else.

I can verify an AN/ARC-8 installation in a USAF C-47 that I flew
on from Hamilton AFB to Tinker AFB in 1966. Unfortunately I wasn't
savvy enough to write down model numbers or frequencies on the
chart. Also, I wasn't lucky enough to get a ham friendly crew member,
"Don't touch the radio!".
