[ARC5] Why is the ARC-5 Tx rack so hard to find?

Mike, et allThe plan is to configure both the SCR274 and ARC5 systems in the "local operator" style , using the FT-260 ( and whatever the ARC uses) front plug ins ( If can ever find some) and spinner knobs. The TX system to be controlled by a bc-451 and I guess I'll have to hunt up a c29 for the ARC. I want them both to be simple yet authentic.RIght now, I have a dual band hybrid SCR274 converted to 12V ( including the tx select and ant relays) working as designed ( keyed B+, etc) with a CW only home-brew dyno supply. The dyno I used originally didn't have enough guts to drive the TX into a proper load without chirping badly, In fact I'd call it a "whoop" more than a chirp. I just acquired one that was more like a 12V version of the DM33 albiet 625V instead of 575V . It seems to work a lot better.
I like the idea that it can just hook up to a car or single battery. However I am not going to bugger up the BC-456 for 12V , it's a nearly impossible task anyway with all of the specialized relays in it which I don't want to change. So,I am going to put together a 28V TX system to get a feel for how it works. If I like it, I suppose I will bite the bullet and convert everything back to 28V and use two batteries.I use these as fun portables and demos since they fit easily in the hatch back.

Uh-oh I ASS-U-med that the MT 71 used the same connectors as the FT-226 but may be wired differently. no?
Nope. Only the antenna relay connector on the rack is interchangeable with the 274N connector. The big 9377 and 9589 12 pin connectors are unique to the ARC-5 and has a different pattern than the PL-154. See http://www.ebay.com/itm/221292263013 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/141393507749
I also thought that the BC-451 and cable/plug config might work with both the BC-456 and the MD-7.
Nope. Again, the MD-7 and MT-71 use the same 12 pin connector above, and the MD-7 also uses a unique 18 pin (9585) connector that has one pin in a different location than the PL-153 274N connector. You can get the BC-451 to work with the MD-7 assuming you have the correct connectors, but I think you'll need to trace out the wiring a bit to make sure the corresponding circuits are correctly supported in that non-stock case.
Got lucky and Ebay steve even had those local operation shorting plugs for the receiver rack.
He is a wonderful resource.
If I'm wrong please educate me! I have most of the ARC-5 items collected, but I haven't got down to the nitty-gritty yet. Do I need to start hunting for more obscure stuff?
It depends on what kind of set you are trying to assemble and how much of a hybrid you are satisfied with. Can you give us an idea?
