Have just done some more investigation:

The problem was initially apparent on my laptop, with Internet
Explorer (up to date) and Win7.

Using my smartphone with the same wifi connection/router
and Google Chrome: no success, not even a fail status report.
Using my smartphone on Mobile data setting (4G) and the
same Google Chrome, the page loaded in less than a second
and displayed fine.
