Sorry list members.
My last two attempts to contact Dave Stinson have foundered because
earthlink thinks I'm a dirty rotten criminal. So, I've had to try this back door
method.
If any of you can help in my quest to refurbish some crock Command sets,
I'ld love to hear from you.
Hello Dave,
Thanks for all the kind words you have been spreading about me among our
Command fraternity.
Now I have almost retired, I have time to play. I am trying to refurbish
several Command Rxs that have been sitting in my attic for years. I acquired
them when the radio club of which I was President, sought to hold its
meetings in an Air Leagues hall. The hall had all sorts of WWII aircraft
artefacts including a tube-driven cockpit simulator – but no comms gear. So,
I thought I could help by populating the hall with operational aircraft
radio operator work stations. The venue-sharing deal fell through when the
Air League management wanted too much for rent – but by this time, I was
lumbered with a whole bunch of unserviceable Command sets.
I have successfully rebuilt four of the 3 to 6 mcs receivers, one 6 to 9.1
mcs receiver and two 190 to 550 kcs receivers; their performance is better
than specified just using OEM parts and OEM lookalike parts for repairs.
There are still a couple more beacon-band sets, a bcb set, a 1.5 to 3 mcs
set and a couple of 6 to 9.1 mcs sets to complete; but they lack OEM parts I
cannot fabricate.
a.. Have you any rear chassis 7-way female connectors? I need 2.
b.. I need a couple of the tuning ferrules – if that’s what they’re called; the
male threaded tube that the flexible tuning cable attaches to on the front
of the receiver. If you have any spare with the attachment nut and the
locking pins, they would be most welcome.
c.. I also need the ceramic insulators and the lead or Belleville washers for
three antenna posts.
Can you help, please?
By the way, this may not be the last of my requests – I also have several
transmitters awaiting my attention – but I haven’t subjected them to my
usual triage yet. I’m still pondering how to use an MD-7 with SCR-274-N
transmitters; I suspect someone has already done this, and as I don’t really
like to spend time re-inventing wheels, any clues or suggestions would be
most welcome – I have cabled up one end of that 12-way cord connector you
found for me; so, I’m en route.
73 de Brian, VK2GCE.
