[ARC5] [Bulk] Who knows what "command set" operating frequencies are? (Rhetorical) Some useful links.

Couple of comments I think I'll add to this thread.

I'm pretty sure I have the same document referenced before, it is from
Taigh Ramey's web site. It lists radio equipment by aircraft type.

The BC-696 (3-4Mc) transmitters looked to be limited to ground
support aircraft. P-40, A-20, P-51, A-36.

Now about the P-51. When P-51s are mentioned, most people have
the image of the Merlin engined versions used for high altitude
escort duty. But this document is from late 1942, and those
P-51s(B,C,D primarily) didn't arrive on the scene until late the
following year. The P-51s referred to in this document were
the Allison engined versions, which were a low altitude
aircraft. The A-36 was a version of the P-51 specifically modified
for dive bombing and ground attack, and also used the Allison engine.

I have seen a photograph of an SCR-274N installation with three
transmitters, using a dual rack, and a single rack. I *think* the
photo was of an A-20, but wouldn't bet the farm on that.

In a similar vein, it appears that the bombers(B-17,B-24,B-25 and B-26)
were the only aircraft to receive the BC-459 (7-9.1Mc), along with
a quantity of 2 BC-455 receivers. So it appears that 7Mc and
up were planned to be the primary bomber HF command frequencies.

But, it has been said that the first casualty of any battle, is the
plan. This document looks to have been drawn up while the air battle
in Europe was getting under way, and what actually transpired in
the following 2 1/2 years probably differs quite a bit from what they
initially put on paper.
