[ARC5] OT The BC-659- what were they thinking?

The packset variant that used the BC-620 was SCR-509.  At a guess, based on 
the number of PE-97's versus the number of CS-79's that turn up, SCR-510 
accounts for maybe 60% of BC-620's and SCR-509 the other 40%.  But the point 
is that use of the packset variant wasn't an "attempt", which implies a 
hurry-up temporary effort, but was planned that way.  In my opinion, one of the 
worst mistakes that the Signal Corps made during WW-II was in building the 
SCR-300 (BC-1000) to cover 40-48 MC when there was nothing else in the 
inventory that it could talk to.  The SCR-508, 509/510, 608 and 609/610  could all 
talk to each other.
