[ARC5] OT The BC-659- what were they thinking?

The packset variant that used the BC-620 was SCR-509. At a guess, based on
the number of PE-97's versus the number of CS-79's that turn up, SCR-510
accounts for maybe 60% of BC-620's and SCR-509 the other 40%. But the point
is that use of the packset variant wasn't an "attempt", which implies a
hurry-up temporary effort, but was planned that way. In my opinion, one of the
worst mistakes that the Signal Corps made during WW-II was in building the
SCR-300 (BC-1000) to cover 40-48 MC when there was nothing else in the
inventory that it could talk to. The SCR-508, 509/510, 608 and 609/610 could all
talk to each other.
