I would sure like to know the source of this. I frankly doubt if WE
ever bothered to rejuvenate carbon telephone transmitters since they
would be replaced with new ones. In particular the T-1, used in the 500
series telephones, has a plastic diaphragm that seals the insides
specifically to avoid moisture damage. An element which has been
moisture damaged would indicate it had mechanical problems.
Very old carbon mics, as used in very early broadcasting and PA
applications, could be helped along by baking.
There is nothing to be lost in trying this procedure, its just that
I have doubts if it will work and I am very skeptical that it came from
Western Electric.
Bell System practice would have been to replace the entire telephone.
