[ARC5] OT The BC-659- what were they thinking?

Yeah, in fact I am planning on ripping all the FM/AM digital sets out of my cars and replacing them with BC-348's.

I have looked at the BC-620 and BC-659 info and the two sets are very similar, using the same case, with a slightly different front plate. The BC-659 has a built in speaker; the BC-620 does not. Tube complements are similar but not exactly the same. IF of the BC-620 is 2.88 MHZ and IF of the BC-659 is 4.3 MHZ. The transmitter schematics appear to be identical. The BC-659 has two receiver RF stages while the BC-620 has but one, all using VT-179 tubes.

I assume the BC-620 was intended for use by infantry and scout units supporting armor while the BC-659 was for infantry use. I've seen a picture of South Korean ground troops with a BC-620 on high ground above a major tank battle in the Korean War.
