The Two-Meter crowd here in Dallas make
Bevis and Butthead look like Einstein,
especially when they start talking about antennas.
They might IQ-up there with Sponge Bob
and Patrick, but it's a near thing...

Example:  Last week a young lady (!) was talking
on a local repeater about having built a crystal
radio.  She said she could move the "tuner bar"
from one end of the coil to the other and get
two different stations.  The local antenna "expert"
(if you don't believe it, just ask him) told her
it was because of  "antenna directivity."
One end of the coil directed the antenna one way
and the other end, the other way.  Really.

"Silver lining" is, of course, a young lady who
would build a crystal radio to start with.
But the "expertese" of our local 2-meter crowd
runs about like this all the time.  I try to laugh
because it's better than crying.

Gather up that which is rare or unusual.
Put everything else on the curb. Tell the local two-meter
doofussi to come take what they want. The rest goes
to recycle. Sad, but the only practical solution now.
Most of us old geezers won't drive 45 minutes to pick up
a common radio even if it's free. And shipping costs have
become so obscene it's pathetic. Better some kid
tinker and tear them up like we did than send them
straight to the dump.
