In 1988 I was TDY to Brooks AFB, TX and noted an F-101B and some F-105's out on one of the long-closed runways. it was clear they were being used for emergency battlefield repair training. I opened up some of the access panels, looked inside, and found a small receiver, I think it was an ARR-47. At that time I was making a list of military radios and entered it into the data; unfortunately that list is no longer available since I switched computers.
I somehow concluded that the ARR-47 was a UHF data link computer used to receive ground control commands from the SAGE system, where the ground radars could direct the interceptor to attack an aerial target with the pilots' hands off.
